My 2020 Goals
2019 was a year of preparation in the Burns Household:

  •  Baby #3 on the way in a few weeks
  •  Purchase of our last rental property, a 4-family in Lyndhurst NJ in August
  •  Vailen (4) learned to write his own name and is learning to read, and pretty much knows all 150 pokemon. He Joined a soccer team and received his first trophy which he adores. Rides a bike with training wheels.
  •  Alvin (2) squeaked into 2020 potty trained! He started talking like a madman and fully interacting with Vailen.
  •  A huge step for our family was transitioning the boys to their own room and bunk bed! Sunmarie have enjoyed these last few months where our evening have deliciously been our own.
  •  We spent much of the year building our Japan house, which we very proudly launched on Airbnb in October and have been booking very successfully since. The extra $1500/month from the Airbnb was enough to squeeze us to 102% financial independence!
  •  I prepared for and finished my first Marathon and ran with 36,000 others in the Army 10-miler
  •  Shortly after I decided to finally deal with a 3-year old knee injury and get ACL surgery
  •  We purchased a 2011 Toyota Sienna Minivan, I decided instead of selling my car to list it on Turo
  •  Sunmarie and I launched our very own podcast! And have been consistent with weekly episodes! 36 episode to date!
  •  Started a Real Estate Investing Meetup with 50 average attendees
  •  Vacationed to Outerbanks, Florida, Ohio wedding, Great Wolf Lodge, babymoon in Mohonk Mountainhouse, Homeschool Convention Lancaster, arcadia camping, sandyhook camping,  shehaqua family camp, BCSF, First FinCon, Raymond & Stephanie Wedding
  •  Sunmarie and I did a Keto diet till Sunmarie got pregnant (2-months) and both hit our weight goals (155lbs & 128lbs)
  •  Marie-Kondoed House
  •  First full year taking only cold showers

 

2019 Goals not Accomplished:

  • Speak at a High School about Personal Finance
  • Start the Breakfree Podcast
  • Create a Monthly Blogpost

 

2020 Goals:

  •  Find solid Dad-friend(s) who will challenge me to be better
  •  Finish an Olympic Triathalon (1,500M swim, 24.3Mi bike, 10K run)
  •  Buy a home by the end of the summer within bicycle distance to work, that backs up to woods and has a YMCA/Pool/Beach within walking distance + has room for in-law suite
  •  Write a Will
  •  Join the Toastmasters Speakers Bureau
  •  Start up a Personal Finance Training program
  •  Take Vailen Kayak Camping (Aug 21st 2020) 
  •  See 54 shooting stars with the kids
  •  Catch & Eat a Fish while camping with the kids
  •  Vailen to start homeschooling
  •  Vailen (4.5) learns to Read, Add, Subtract, Swim, Do 5 Pull-ups, Be competitive in Connect-4
  •  Do 75 Hard with Sunmarie
  •  3 paid speaking gigs

 

5-Year Goals:

  •  R/V trip across the Country
  •  Become a Stay at Home Family
  •  Have 4-Kids
  •  Work Exchange Program with Fam in Japan for a Year

 

Lifetime Goals:

  •  Live in an off-grid cabin for 6 months
  •  Go on a weeklong camping trip with the entire family
  •  Visit all the National Parks
  •  Bicycle Across the Country

 

Habits:

  •  Cold Showers
  •  Intermittent Fasting (10am-8pm)
  •  Weekend Swim with Vailen
  •  Go to gym Tuesday and Thursday
  •  Layout Clothes and Lunch for Next Day before bed
  •  Read before bed
  •  Once a Month Date Night (15th)
